Stan Coveleski was one of those pitchers grandfathered in when the spitball became outlawed and he continued to throw it throughout his career. He ended up with over 200 wins and a sub 3.00 ERA and pitched in several memorable games, including the one where teammate Ray Chapman became the only player in history to be killed by a pitch. Imagine the juices flying off the ball when he went head to head with fellow spitballer Burleigh Grimes in game seven of the 1920 World Series. He once pitched seven innings of a game without throwing a ball. Every pitch was either a strike or put in play.
