He was overshadowed by teammates named Ruth, Gehrig, and DiMaggio but make no mistake, Bill Dickey was every bit as valuable a member of those great championship teams. Thirteen times he caught 100 games or more and his defense was rock solid. Throw in a career batting average of .313 and you start to see why some old timers still think of him as the greatest catcher of all time. Eleven times an all star and eight times a world champion, he is the largest of my 261 Hall of Fame paintings as I did him almost life sized.
