Jim O'Roarke played his first professional game in 1872 and he became one of the games first stars. The first base hit in National League history is credited to him on April 22, 1876. He put together a great career ending up with over 2,600 hits and a splendid .311 career batting average. He played and helped manage in the minor leagues after his MLB career ended, but came up for one last time in the bigs in 1904, when the New York Giants put him in the line up. At the ripe age of 54 he became the oldest MLB player in history to get a hit. And he could obviously rock a mustache!
