For 23 years he was the career major league home run champion, until a guy named Ruth came along and completely obliterated his mark of 138. He was an early star of the game, wrapping up his career in 1897 with 2,467 hits and an impressive .317 batting average. I painted him as a tribute to a time when the game was a bit simpler, even before they started wearing gloves.
