The Guy Who Changed the Numbers

Updated: Sep 23, 2018

There were no radar guns when this guy played in the early days of professional baseball but experts acknowledge he probably threw in the mid 90's. Amos Rusie threw harder than anyone that had played the game up to that point, unfortunately he also threw wilder. He set a single season record with 289 walks and almost killed Hughie Jennings with a fast ball to the head. The rule makers of the time wisely changed the distance from the rubber to home plate from 50 feet to the magical 60 feet 6 inches.
