The Flash Takes Flight

Updated: Aug 15, 2018

No less a judge than fabled Yankee manager Joe McCarthy once said, "The greatest all-around baseball player I ever saw, and I don't bar any of them, is Joe Gordon". The man they called Flash was a rock solid second baseman on the great Yankee teams of the late 30's and early 40's. He won the AL MVP award in 1942, the same year Ted Williams won the Triple Crown. He went to Cleveland later in his career and was a key cog in their 1948 World Series championship. Another one of those guys whose career stats, while impressive, don't tell the whole story about what a complete player he was.
