Dan Brouthers was an intimidating figure in the early days of baseball. He played professionally from 1879-1904, making him one of those rare players that played in four decades. A four time batting champ he finished his career with a remarkable .342 batting average. He was a big player for the time, standing 6 ft 2 and weighing in at 207 pounds. Nowadays, that would be a normal sized shortstop!
