The consecutive game streak was enough to make him one of baseball's greatest legends but there was a spot in Cooperstown for Cal Ripken Jr even if he had sat down the odd game. His career can be summed up by numbers, starting of course with 2,632. Throw in these gems too; 3,184 hits, 431 home runs, 1,695 RBIs, 19 times an All Star, and the list is far from complete. One of the greatest players of his generation, he struck me as that All American guy that showed up to work every day and never settled for anything short of excellence.
