My paintings are equal parts tribute to the player in the Hall of Fame, and tribute to a piece of baseball lore, history, idiosyncrasy, whatever you want to call that magic that shines through in baseball's magic lens. Here is Harry Heilmann sliding in hard to second on his way to Cooperstown. He was a great early star of the game, finishing with a very impressive .342 career average. I liked the days before video replay when a call would get blown, a dispute would erupt, dust would settle, the game would carry on, and arguments could last a lifetime. In this painting Harry is safe, despite the airborne evidence to the contrary. You have to ask yourself...where is the ball?
