He followed Teddy Ballgame and Yaz in the chain of great BoSox left fielders. In his first year in the bigs Jim Rice finished second in Rookie of the year voting and third in AL MVP. His fellow Red Sox outfielder Fred Lynn won both awards. Rice would go on to a stellar career in Boston. He did something no other player has done in MLB history; had three straight seasons of 200 or more hits and at least 39 homers. I love watching batting practice and tried to capture that "keep your eye on the ball|" philosophy that great hitters like Jim Rice worked so hard on.
