A Legendary Hurler

A true legend of the game and if not for the color barrier Joe Williams would be talked about in the same breath as Koufax, Feller, and every other great that has thrown a baseball. He and Satchel Paige are generally recognized as the greatest pitchers in Negro league history. His list of accomplishments would fill the page; he struck out 27 in a 12 inning game at the age of 44, he was 20-7 in his career when facing major league stars in the barnstorming exhibitions of the time, he was 41-3 in 1914 while facing the best Negro league teams of the day. Smokey Joe Williams deserves his place in Cooperstown among all the greats that played this special game.
