Rod Carew is another one of those guys whose numbers tell you why he was welcomed to Cooperstown in his first year of eligiblity. Chew on these stats; 3,053 hits, a .328 career batting average, a 7x AL batting champion. He had the world in awe in 1977 when he batted .388, even appearing on the cover of Time magazine with the caption "Baseball's Best Hitter". Of the 261 Hall of Famers I have painted he was one of my favorites to do for two reasons; I still use my Rod Carew Edition ball glove when I play catch and like my brother in law, Carew was given the gift of life and had a succesful heart transplant in 2016. If you needed a base hit to win a game to save the planet, he would be a good choice to send to the plate.
